SimCity - The Vanishing Act

Writing this article made me sad. I want nothing more than for SimCity to be a successful game that's fun to play and which works all the time. But with cities disappearing and patch 2.0 feeling like launch week all over again, it's hard to stay optimistic. And when EA decided to shut down SimCity Social, I couldn't help but to wonder if SimCity might be headed towards the same fate.

Cities still being lost? Then none of my money will be paid out. I continue to maintain hope though.

If there's one thing EA doesn't have, it's the trust of their customers. I've been trying to give EA the benefit of the doubt with SimCity and just waiting for them to get their act together and get everything working. But as the weeks have gone by, it just gets harder and harder to have any faith in their ability to make it right. And with the unapologetic closure of SimCity Social and the fact that paying customers won't be able to play the game anymore, I'm just at a loss. I can't understand what the decision makers at EA are thinking at all.

Yeah, there are a lot of good folks working at Maxis. I hope they can bring it together.

I think you're letting your personal friendships (inferred) blind you to the simple truth: Maxis blew it. I don't know if it's a case of laziness or incompetence, but Maxis released a game of which they should be ashamed. They burned a lot of customers, and may very well have buried the franchise. I don't know what exactly it is you're hoping for, but at this point it's far too little, much too late.

Not saying it doesn't happen but I have never had any issue with things being lost and neither have any of the people I have talked to about this game. The traffic is a serious problem but this game really isn't as bad as all you people pretend.

Don't like EA? thats fine there are good reasons to not like them. No reason to blindly hate on this game like so many people already do.

I don't hate EA, nor do I hate SimCity. On the contrary, it's my love for the game and the series that makes me want to see this new SimCity live up to its potential. If you want proof, check out my review that's also on Gamer Horizon. I gave it an 8/10 at a time when other reviewers were giving it really low scores.

Even today I still think SimCity is a great game. I've really enjoyed experiencing SimCity through the GlassBox engine, and I think the team at Maxis deserves recognition for their accomplishments. It's just that I've just experienced more than my fair share of technical difficulties with the game, as have many other players.

I think when it comes down to it though, we are all SimCity fans, and all we want is for SimCity to be as good as it should be. I was hoping patch 2.0 would be the answer, but we're just not quite there yet.
