So is the whole story mode a horrible luck-fest?

I wanted a Kart racer, not a casino sim. >_> Why bother going through the motions of a race when the outcome is purely luck? They should just let you roll a dice until you get a 1 to beat levels. Would be the same effect without the tedium.

EDIT: Just realized there's a "Casual" difficulty option. Any downsides to picking this? I don't really consider rolling dice a challenge, so.. No sense in giving myself worse odds for no reason.

Only downside to casual is you can't upload your scores made in casual to the leaderboards.

As for the difficulty....welcome to the twisted world of UFG, i don't blame you one bit for hating it. Difficulty is much much easier in casual, lets you get story mode out of the way so you can get right to the creating.

Community levels can be even worse since a lot of people don't change the default "Normal" difficulty.

XD Yeah... Well, ModNation wasn't so bad, because you had adequate means of protecting yourself with the Boost Shielding and such. I never had problems with its story, and even the challenges aren't a problem after they patched them. (The original ones had some really, really hard challenges >_>)

Come to think of it, ModNation's AI was extremely rubbery. If you never used power-sliding, and just drove around normally without hitting walls, the AI would barely shoot weapons and would go out of their way to slow down instead of passing you. The moment you started sliding, the weapons would fly. Maybe the same applies to this game? Gonna try it today sometime. XD

Whelp. I was in 1st for a whole race, saving my weapons to deflect incoming attacks like a champ. Last turn of the last lap, I deflect a missile, then immediately after a blue First Place Seeking Missile nukes me while I'm defenseless. Dropped to 4th right at the finish line.

YOU HAD ONE JOB, CASUAL DIFFICULTY...

Yep. I've noticed that in most cases, the best way for me to lock down a first place finish on a course is to actually drop back until I pick up a fast-forward or blue missle, then stay mid-pack until halfway through the 3rd lap, then make a push for the front and use my item to overtake 1st right before the end. I do have to admit, fast-forwarding across the finish is pretty entertaining, but not quite worth the frustration of the seeming randomness of the races even when I feel like I'm doing a good job on the course.

Actually, it isn't anywhere near as bad as any Mario Kart.

Only reason why it can considered worse is its done in a tournament (hard to win 4 races in a row then hitting the retry button over and over on a single track) and of course unavoidable blue shells

I never had as much trouble with Mario Kart. I think the recovery time after getting nuked is better on there, maybe? Haven't played in a while, but I know if I flopped one race, I could generally make it up in the following races and still get the gold. The completely-screwed-by-unavoidable-luck scenario didn't come up as often.

The Wii one was pretty awful sometimes, though, with the abundance of "NUKE ALL THE KARTS!" items combined with 12 racers. >_>; But at least there you could slap Baby Daisy in the Bullet Bill Bike on Auto and you're basically cheating. Never lost an AI race with that combo. XD

Let me get this straight. You suck at the game, so you say its s "luck fest". I don't even know what this means, unless you mean the AI will win no matter what.

This game is extremely easy. I won 90% of the races. Maybe you should turn the difficulty down all the way.
