Figures FAQ V2

#1KFrosty3Posted 11/11/2012 6:32:52 AM
This was written after noticing how many people posted into the message boards and
answers sections asking many similar questions about figures. I took it upon myself
(with the help of some other users) to create this faq and hopefully inform people
about these figures. For whatever reason, Gamefaqs is not putting up the FAQ I made, so its going to have to be here that I put it. Thanks again for all those who helped with this. Please do not post until I have reached the end (which is where I will say "END POST")

ITEMS INFO

This Item Info was written by Ross MacDaddy and reformatted by me

Timed means the item only lasts for a limited time
Continuous means the item is constantly "on" until you take it off the portal

Pirate Seas items:
*Ghost Pirate Swords: Timed - Spectral swords follow you around and seek out nearby
enemies and swing fast and repeatedly to deal damage in small amounts, sometimes
with critical hits. Effective when being mobbed, but the timer isn't long enough
to abuse too much.
*Hidden Treasure: Continuous - Spawns a treasure chest that appears randomly in a
few select areas. A "radar" of sorts will appear on your screen and lights up when
you get closer to the chest. Chest is usually only usable once per area, but some
cutscenes and dialogue with NPC's will also reset the chest so it can be collected
again.
*Ghost Pirate Ship: Cannonballs rain on the field and deal max damage to everything
on screen. Can only be used once per stage.

Darklight Crypt items:
*Time-Twist Hourglass: Timed - Slows down enemy gameplay for a short period of time.
Most useful during heroic challenges since it also slows down the timer in said
challenges.
*Healing Elixer: Timed - Operates the same as the battle mode version, but longer
duration. Can fully heal your Skylander(s) and then some, so be sure to take it off
the portal before you waste the timer when your HP is full!
*Darklight Crypt: Spirits/Skulls(?) rain on the field and deal max damage to
everything on screen. Can only be used once per stage.

Empire of Ice items:
*Sky Iron Shield: Timed - shields will rotate around your enemies and block most
attacks. My best guess is that this items maxes out your armor rating beyond what
you could normally get with heroic challenges. You can still take damage, but it
is somewhat rare while this is active.
*Anvil Rain: Timed - Anvils fall from the sky constantly. Each will deal decent
damage (15 IIRC) and can get critical hits. The anvils are NOT random... they will
typically fall on enemies on screen without fail. Anvils can hit your character,
but they will not damage you. You will get knocked back though, so be careful.
On the Wii version, this item can be used to clear Double Trouble's heroic
challenge "You Break It, You Buy It!" VERY easily because the anvils will only
target enemies - not the vases or paintings.
*Empire of Ice: Icicles rain on the field and deal max damage to everything on
screen. Can only be used once per stage.

Dragon's Peak items:
*Sparx the Dragonfly: Timed - Sparx will follow you around like a familar and shoot
volleys of bullets at your enemies. If he defeats them with his shots, a butterfly
may appear. Sparx will eat these butterflys and fly back to you, healing you for 10
HP each time.
*Winged Boots: Timed - Your character's speed is maxed out beyond what is normal
with heroic challenges for a limited time. Great for speeding through traps that
would otherwise catch/hit you.
*Dragon's Peak: Fireballs rain on the field and deal max damage to everything on
screen. Can only be used once per stage.

Skylanders Sidekicks:

*Trigger Snappy / Whisper Elf / Terrabyte / Gill Runt: Continuous - Follows you
around, but does nothing. Can get in the way of your shots.

Note: damage dealing items (except level pieces) can get elemental damage bonuses if
your Skylander is getting one from an elemental zone.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will you be updating this?
Most likely, but it's hard to say

How do I know which category my figure is in?
There are many ways to figure this out. see the other categories If a figure you own is
listed within one of the categories I have, and all the attributes match a certain
category, then that is most likely your figure type. It's safe to assume that most
figures with a green base are Series 1 (S1), while an orange base is for newer
figures. The pose for the figure is a dead giveaway as well.

Will my figure work between platforms?
Yes, all figures are cross platform. For example, a figure used on the Xbox 360 will
work on the Wii and vice versa

What figures should I buy?
To complete the game, you will need at least 8 Skylanders (one of each element) & at least one Giant and one that's not (Series 1, 2, New Non Giants, etc.)

What portals work on my console?
If you own an Xbox 360, only Xbox portals will work. If you own a PS3, Wii, or 3DS,
then they are interchangeable with each other.

Why doesn't my figure work on the portal?
Either your figure or the portal is malfunctioning. If it is the figure, you can
exchange it in the store you purchased it from for another. If it's the portal, or
you have waited too long to exchange instore, go to activisions support website.
http://support.activision.com/pkb_Home?clickedOn=Skylanders

Why doesn't my figure glow?
Some older Xbox Portals seem to not be equipped with the technology that reads the
glow on newer figures. You may need to try a new portal. The figure may also be
defective. Either way, see if Activision can help. Again, go to Activision's support
website: http://support.activision.com/pkb_Home?clickedOn=Skylanders

When will a character be released/restocked?
I do not know, as releases and restocks seem to happen sporadically/randomly over
time and there is little to no info released by Activision or Toys For Bob.

Where can I buy figures listed here?
All figures should be available on websites of online retailers. All non
variant/limited figures should appear over time in retailers as long as demand for
Skylanders continues to be strong.

Does my figure work on Spyro's adventure?
If the figure is in the list of original characters for the game, or it's mentioned
to work in the actual differences section, then yes

What Characters were not reposed for Skylanders Giants?
Boomer, Voodood, Dino-Rang, Wham-Shell, Camo, Warnado, Sunburn and Ghost Roaster.
One of each element.

Which Characters are better in this game?
See Ross Macdaddy's Character ratings topic on the wii boards for each game's
specific character rankings. I will not talk about that here.

How do I know if my figure is a fake?
On regular figures, if it works in the game and retains all it's upgrades and stats,
then it is most likely real. Variants need to work in the game, retain their stats
and upgrades, and will have a different colored palette ingame as well. On
limited/chase figures, you would need an expert on the matter, so it's best to
just buy them sealed/brand new.

Why haven't you listed Blue/Purple/Red Lips Chill as a variant?
Because this seems to have been an unintended release that does not change the way
she acts ingame at all. They were painted based on the character model artist were
currently working with. Again they are NOT official variants/limited edition figures

Why did you leave out other things?
Either they didn't apply to this FAQ, or I simply forgot. PM me or post in the
topic if it's the latter.

Special Thanks!

*GameFAQs For creating a website that I have used and enjoyed for years.
*Activision & Toys for Bob, for making this game.
*Skylanders.com & Skylanders Universe for info on the figures.
*User Ross MacDaddy For Item Info and Character ratings topic
*All the members of the Gamefaqs Skylanders Message Boards for their discussions(especially those whom posted within my original topic)
*and all who have read this FAQ

Thanks again, I hope you enjoy this, and END POST!

P.S. Apparently, I had to add a "-" at the end of Sprocket's name because without that, her name was seen as profanity... I am not even sure why :/...

What's even weirder is that I could not post this until Trigger Happy was the 3rd Tech member. I will try to resend this as an official FAQ once I fix those glitches in Version 3

Is the new Spyro out yet or no? I actually have been holding off on really playing though the game until I get him and have yet to see him anywhere I go currently. If he's not, is he at least due out soon?

-Wrecking Ball
-Drobot
-Zap
-Eruptor
-Lightning Rod
-Prism Break

And since people keep asking, here are the other figures NOT released:

Lightcores
-Hex
-Shroom Boom
-Chill
-Pop Fizz

Hopefully, we will get them soon.
