Wearing light armor right now, is the iato+5 better than battle axe?

not with your stats. you have the beginnings of a quality build so probably go for weapons that scale with str and dex. take a look at the pike that andre the blacksmith sells. heavy but great for pvp and pve. shoot to raise str to 27 and dex to 40 to get the most out of quality weapons while two-handing. EDIT: you could also use the washing pole which is an extra long katana with str/dex scaling, and it has pretty good speed. A quality build will let you use pretty much any weapon effectively though.

alternatively, cap dex at 18 and str at 36 to specialize in hard-hitting black knight weapons like the black knight great axe.

never, ever make a raw weapon; they are subpar to any other path

chaos, lightning and fire are pure elemental paths that get rid of stat scaling, and are used for keeping str/dex at the minimum level to wield a weapon so the player can raise vitality instead

enchanted and occult are also for keeping str/dex at base levels to wield a weapon, but raising int or fai respectively to very high levels to make casting very powerful without having to raise str or dex. These weapons "scale" with int or faith, which means those stats are what increase the damage output for the weapon.

you want the normal path for weapons tho, which ends at +15. str and/or dex will influence the attack power so these will do the most damage when you get your stats for str and/or dex up to wield them. for the character you are making now, I would forget about anything other than normal upgrades (though a divine weapon comes in real handy in the catacombs), and raise your stats to 27 str 40 dex to wield almost all weapons effectively, or 36 and 18 for black knight weapons.

I don't know what you mean by stay scaling. But I explained stat scaling above.

Kill the moonlight butterfly for divine ember. Look at a dark souls wiki if you want to answer most of your questions.

The earlier the letter is on the alphabet, the more damage it gains from increasing a stat.

So a weapon with 200 base damage and a C rating for strength will be eventually outdamaged by a weapon with 100 base damage and an A scaling in strength.
Exception to this rule is S scaling, which is the best possible scaling you can get. You can only get S scaling with a few weapons (MLGS, +14 Great Club, Dark Silver Tracer, etc.)
