Nope. It’s just out-of-touch execs who sit back and say “So, the kids like the multiplayer. I guess our big flagship franchise needs the multiplayer. Call the God of War folks! I want the multiplayer!” and it is so. They’re also falsely convinced that multiplayer in single player games boosts sales which is rarely the case. I suppose they can nickel and dime fans with MP bonuses and cheap DLC…but I thought fans hated that…

Why not? There are a number of examples of this in other games. Taking history into account is a logical course of actions.
