Wasn't the GameShark something game developers didn't want in the first place?

None of the major developers ever liked the GameShark, there was just nothing they could do about it, since it wasn't made illegally and didn't do anything that was technically illegal.

There are no GameSharks for modern systems because such a device would basically have to crack the system software to make such alterations (whereas older system GameSharks pretty much just altered a line or two of game code), which is against the Terms-Of-Service. It could get people banned from Online services at best and could be potentially illegal at worst.

It has nothing to do with Trophies.

I would actually enjoy this type of stage as a homage to the old Game Shark days. I still have my old PSX Game Shark. N64 also had Game Shark though, as did a bunch of their handhelds.
