Oh yeh. That's why they were given the keys to one of gaming's most sacred franchises, and are using them to develop one of the biggest games of 2013 that's pretty much guaranteed to be a success. Metal Gear Rising.

That's also why The big N has decided to support and publish two original games from them. One of them being Bayonetta 2 which they specifically brought back from the dead because of how well Bayonetta was received, and most likely more. Which is pretty damn rare for Nintendo to do with a third party.

And while I respect Sega for giving the off-the-wall studio support, they just didn't, or couldn't, support them enough to get their game's names out there. They even screwed them over pretty hard a few times. Like Max Anarchy being delayed in the US/EU for no reason at all, when Platinum worked hard to have a worldwide launch to create a solid online community. Now that's all shattered thanks to Sega. Hell, Platinum didn't even know it was happening until the day Sega announced it.

When you make great and impactful games, people notice. No matter how much they sell. Gaming has never been about sales, even though today's blockbuster/DLC market will try to say otherwise. It's about making special games that leave a lasting impression in a number of ways. Whether you like it or not, Platinum is a shining example of this, and major companies around the world are finally taking notice. And it's about time, honestly.

At least right now, the only direction they're going is up.

Doesn't change anything to the fact that all their games have been flops so far.

Just because they don't sell big number likes Call of Duty Rehash 25, doesn't mean they are flops. I like Vanquish,Bayonetta,Infinite Space.

Coming back to this thread I must ask.

Why the hate for Revengance? I mean I know it's now a Hack n Slash but why do people think this will be e black sheep of the Metal Gear series? Looks damn fun.

I'm not even talking about big numbers. Vanquish, Madworld, Bayonetta, Anarchy Reigns (in Japan) sold pretty badly. They probably got a huge investment to set up a studio as big as they are. How long can a studio go on with that many flops?

I really wouldn't say they were overall. All of their games were far from flops when it comes to quality, critic and player response, and standing out as unique.

Bayonetta sold over 1 million copies. Madworld And Vanquish did indeed have bad sales, and so far Max Anarchy isn't doing great (Sega didn't help at all with that one, and it's still only out in Japan), but they were awesome games that gained a lot of attention for Platinum, and slowly spread more and more through word of mouth. (At least Vanquish and Max Anarchy.) I don't know much about Infinite World.

Which once again, leads them into the great situation they're in today. Just developing MGR alone is going to bump them up further. I have faith in them and I already think it looks sweet, but they could honestly make that game a piece of poo and it would still sell at least 1 or 1.5 million copies on the name alone.

I dunno why I'm in the mood to type so much now.

Reviewers tend to buy into hype quickly - we've seen that several tes. Bayonetta and Vanquish are both average games. MGS:R will sell well enough because of the name but it'll still end up being a shallow game that doesn't have much going on.

Bayonetta 2 will flop, as will their other game.

Edit: Rising will also get a bump from PSASBR.

Rising will only need the bump from the name alone to make it a success. PSASBR is just icing on the cake. The fact that Kojima, a very picky guy, gave them the keys to what was supposed to be his next big game already shows that the he trusts them to make a game that's not shallow.

Whether it ends up being that or not is up to Platinum, but from the previews I've seen, it looks great to me and to the public. Pretty much anybody that's hating on it just doesn't like PGs, or is still saying "THIS ISN'T WHAT METAL GEAR SOLID ISSSSSS!" (Hence why it's called Metal Gear Rising, foos.)

Once again, if you think that game won't sell at least 1 million on the name alone, putting them in an even better position unless it's very poorly received (which I doubt), you're thinking silly.

And that's fine if that's your opinion, man, on Bayonetta and Vanquish (and again, Bayonetta sold fine, so it's still too early to say what 2 will do). But generally people (not just reviewers) disagree which, once again, is why they're undoubtably in a greater position today than they were.

"They said something bad about the game I like!? There games must suck!!! Screw them!"

That explains it.

Also, TC is a troll. They didn't even say they "don't like it". They said they didn't like the leak, and that they were jokingly disappointed in certain aspects of his appearance, probably in terms of weapons or the lack of blood and gore.

I keep wondering... why didn't they made the game in Japan? It really seems they prefer to appeal to western audiences with this game, specially as most characters are western, and doesn't seem balanced between japanese and western ones.

They have a nice balance of American, Japanese and Europe represented but both characters and stages.
