A brawler is what people made up when they didn't want to directly acknowledge that something was a fighting game.

The primary game play is fighting.

Have you guys even looked at some of the games that GameFAQS considers a fighting game? .hack? Acceleration of Suguri? Vitual Rabbit Missions?

This game along with SSB are not traditional arcade fighting games, which was what people usually mean when talking about a fighting game.
