Unless indicated, I refer to the first game in the series

Street Fighter II: 8
Super Street Fighter II: 12
Blazblue: 16 (I hear)
Super Smash Bros: 12 (thanks for correcting me)
Mortal Kombat: 8

And you have to take into account they made each character from scratch on a limited budget.

Point is it'S a first game by a new studio.

What's more important is that the 20 characters in this game are really distinct from each other. It's not like Marvel 3 where you've got like 50 characters except only a few have distinct playstyles and the others are all incredibly minor variations of basic rushdown.

Yeah, and only a few characters in MvC2 are actually tourney-quality. Most of them Marvel, something Capcom would not do on purpose.
