It could be an interesting thing, years down the road. They'd want to have all their ducks in a row before they even considered it, though:

- All the characters people want. I'd say if they can't get Crash and Spyro, they shouldn't even try a sequel. It'd just infuriate people.

- Understand why this game failed. What about the core gameplay was off, what about the options was wrong, etc.

- Don't shy away from what made PSASBR great and interesting. If they went back on the super system and made this a straight smash clone, I'd be pretty sad. =(

Honestly, it's such a tenuous thing to take on a project like this after the first one already struggled... I dunno. =/
If I haven't mentioned Trivio in my post, it's because she is so beautiful and precarious that I just wanted to show her how much she means to me.
