I'd say an RPG rep is out of the question now.

Where is he getting only 1/10th of the roster being advertisment characters?

Zeus
Kat
New Dante
MGR Raiden
Big Daddy
Isaac Clarke

That's already 6 (25%) off the top of my head.

Also someone that tried to use VGchartz as a reliable source has no grounds to call anyone else an idiot.

Kat is advertising what? A game that came out a year ago? And Big Daddy? Advertising what? Bioshock Infinite? A game he isn't even in? MGR Raiden also has the costume for MGS2, so hardly a complete advertisement as it is just the newest version of him.

That leaves DMC Dante, Zeus and Isaac. All three have had games on the Sony systems before hand. They are catered more to their newest appearances but that doesn't make them an advertisement addition.

The Raiden in this game is entirely based off the new game which wasn't even out when this game released and is multiplatform. He is completely different, down to his personality.

His ENTIRE moveset is based off MGR.

You can still advertise an older game. Kat got in because she's from a recent game that could still generate sales. Big Daddy represents the franchise as a whole, obviously he's advertising the series.

Yet you have not made one solid argument as to how this game is a marketing tool.

Read above. I'd also add Fat Princess to that list.

Seriously, how dense are you?
You are trying to argue a game that even blind people would be able to see is a marketing tool by now, isn't a marketing tool.

I mean they literally just admitted it with the GoW Ascension deal.

So then Super Smash is a marketing tool too right? Because they included Pit a few years before his newest game was coming out, and they used the newest version of Link in the game. I meant Twilight Princess Link and Ganon? What are they trying to market Twilight Princess? Mario has his Sunshine water pack? That is clearly marketing right there. And Sonic? Oh man Sonic! Not only did they include him right around the time they were releasing those Wii exclusive Secret Rings / Black Knight titles, but also the partnership with the Mario and Sonic Olympic games. That's a complete marketing tool strategy right there.

With that logic every character in this game is an advertisement. I'd love to know who you would want. Snake? That's an advertisement for MGS4. Cloud? Advertisement for FF7 which you can download off of PSN. Spyro? Crash? Same thing, download their games off of the PSN store. Hell every character is an advertisement for the series of games they come from! Super Smash is the biggest marketing game in existence.

Pit you could make a case for. Everyone else, they can use newer designs like they did with Heihachi without changing the essential character. Link's upgraded design doesn't mean he plays totally differently. He's not a completely different character like New Dante or MGR Raiden.

Mario Sunshine was ancient by that time, once again, how dense are you?

Apart from Pit, no character in Brawl was advertising a game not even out or just very recently released (Dead Space, Ascension).

Why do RPG fans feel like their genre HAS to be included? I understand Final Fantasy or Legend of Dragoon since those series have major ties to Sony, but seriously?

Actually you can still get people to buy a game that came out a year ago if they like them. I won't be surprised to see people get their hands on Kat, like her, and then if they have a vita, go buy Gravity Rush. Same with basically ANY OF THE CHARACTERS IN THIS GAME.

You remember Marth? His first appearance in America was SSB: Melee. Fire Emblem wasn't much of any established franchise at the point in the US. I would think a lot of Nintendo fans bought FE: Shadow Dragon cause they knew Marth was in it, or possibly read the trophies, so they recognized the name fire emblem, and picked up the game.

My point is, this game did market it's characters, new and old. Can't say that many people played this game and liked the characters and bought those games, but it's indeed possible.

As for RPG characters, Santa Monica studios is at the helm now and if they don't add in own Sony's RPG character, Legend of Dragoon's Dart, then eh, you'll have to wonder if they are even going to bother with RPGs, which is possible since they don't well in the west. Most JRPGs are cult favorites now, Final Fantasy being the only one which isn't.

Personally I'd rather see Tales characters. They'd fit better and have many moves to choose from, and with Tales of Xillia on the horizon, Milla would be a perfect fit with a moveset that would make her pretty unique, awesome magic knight character.

Lastly, Smash could be the biggest advertising game ever (which it isn't even close to when you look at shameless games like PSASBR) and it wouldn't make any difference, it's already got all the essentials.

Being an advertisment bulletin board only becomes worse when all the essentials are missing.

Except Dante is the only one who plays differently. Raiden plays exactly how his MGS4 version would play, since that is basically how MGR Raiden plays. He's more or less a mix of the two, incorporating moves from both.

And by that logic Zeus isn't an advertisement for Ascension since he plays almost no part in the actual story of Ascension (he doesn't become a villain until God of War 2). And his appearance and moves are based on his God of War 3 appearance if I do recall. So outside of the coupon deal, he's no more an advertisement for the newest God of War than Kratos is.
