Respawn Entertainment - A Possible CoD Competitor?

#1Michael244Posted 2/18/2013 2:17:49 PM
Respawn Entertainment is a studio that was formed in 2010 after the major legal battle between Jason West and Vince Zampella, the creators of CoD, and now ex-heads of Infinity Ward.

It's been 3 years since the battle and now we are nearing the supposed announcement of the project the company has been working on with EA.

If you're wondering what they've been doing for the past 3 years, this video provides some speculation and as much information about the studio's "Sci-Fi oriented" project.

Will this new studio compete with Call of Duty?

1 of 2 groups.

1st group: "This is the best game in the history of games ever!"
2nd group: "This is the worst game in the history of games ever!"

They have the potential to, yeah.
Without these two, the game we know wouldn't exist.
The are the godfathers of CoD, in particular MP.

They could easily be a challenge for CoD, will they be the codkiller? doubtful.
Though, next gen, if they hit the gate early, a few months before the 1st CoD next gen, and have a genuine stellar game. They would easily take 40% or so of fans. The mw1/old fans. The fans who are just tired of the rehash game with a new gimmick each game as the selling point.
I hope they bring something amazing out and wreck cod. A game with no competition grows lax and loses its drive. This is cod in my eyes. It's the usual thing since mw2.
(Within the little difference of course)

keyword to eliminate my interest " sci-fi shooter " ...

i'm all up for futuristic mumbo-jumbo as long as the basics i know are still intact ...

but sci fi crap ...? no thanks ... i never liked playing someone's fantasy world where he bends reality to his own leisure ...

alot of people will disagree with me ... but i just hate that genre when it comes to shooter games ... sci fi in RPGs and action games is ok ... but not shooters ...

a cod killer would have to be a game that is just like cod with map size, kill/pointstreak rewards and the game modes we've all came to like. all that could really be done is dedicated servers

It won't be a CoD killer. Battlefield will do that before that game does.

I'm willing to try it out as long as it looks good and runs on dedicated servers.

Well to be fair, a "good" Sci-Fi is often based on REAL science and usually is not contradictory with itself. This is pretty evident with Star Trek. Your description of Sci-Fi is much more similar to Science Fantasy.

Of course, if this Sci-Fi game has nothing to do with what we know about science right now, then your statement is completely valid.

@ michael : sci fi tends to create " new spieces " that have " special " characteristics ... etc ...

sorry but that never interests me ...

they tend to create new " materials " ... im ok with that but don't drag that into a FPS game ... if its an action game no problem ... or an RPG ...

but they shouldn't go on creating thier own rules in FPS gaming ... its aim , shoot and kill ... there should be no intervention between these three unless your opponent already killed you ...

For me it really depends what they mean by "sci-fi orientated". If its anything like Halo, Killzone, Crysis etc then im not interested. Even Bungies new game Destiny doesnt hold any interest for me from what ive seen so far. If im completly honest i think id rather see another WW2 game than anything sci-fi.
