"It's just the same game again." THAT'S WHAT WE WANT

When you have a winning formula, you're not going to change the formula. You're going to change all the extra bits, the features, the environments, and so on.

Pokemon? It's the same game every time. You always start in some town then go to the others, catching and fighting Pokemon and Gym Leaders until you beat the Elite Four. Why do we keep buying it?

Zelda? It's the same game every time. You have to go save Zelda and Hyrule from Ganon/Ganondorf by going into dungeons, solving puzzles and beating bosses with the equipment you find. Why do we keep buying it?

Same with CoD. It's always going to be a first person shooter with the ability to aim down the sights, customize your class with different categories of guns and Perks, and earning rewards for getting multiple kills without dying. That's what makes it sell. We WANT that. We just need new maps and features and so on or else it would get boring after a while, like watching the same movie over and over again...and hey, guess what, you can sum up the plot of most movies into a few basic formulas too.

The people posting topics about how it's just rehashed just don't get it. It's supposed to be that way. Anything else means it's becoming a TPS or RTS or RPG or something, or so radically different of a FPS that it wouldn't be recognizable, and nobody would buy it. It wouldn't be CoD. Why do they expect it to be so different AND CoD at the same time? Isn't that an oxymoron?

If you want something different from CoD, you buy something that's not a CoD game. Go play Halo or something...which, hey, guess what, always has had the same formula as well. All that's changed is the extra bits and maps and equipment and guns...

Pokemon and Zelda don't come out every year at about the same time.

That's not the issue though. They're just saying it's always the same game.

Unless their only problem is how frequently they have to "deal" with a new CoD, in which case...wtf? Is it getting shoved in your face? Are people coming to your door with copies asking for money? How on earth could it bother you unless you go looking for it in the first place?

Besides, each CoD takes 2 years to make anyway.

Exactly. What makes me laugh even more is the fact that this looks like the most evolved COD since 4. It still follows the same formula, yes, but they seem to be changing a lot (from SP to MP to Zombies). But, despite the changes, people are still hating just because it is COD :(

But it throws it in your face. Yes Pokemon is the same, but there's some time between releases. When it's yearly it throws it in your face more. They do it with Madden and other sports games too because of the yearly release.

When you go to a game store and the entire front wall is a CoD poster and the employees try to get you to reserve CoD (one GameStop tried to get me to reserve Blops 2 after I already told them I had it reserved... I really didn't get that one) and everyone you see around talks CoD any time video games come up because that's all a lot of people are familiar with I can see where people would feel that way. Think of it like this: take a game that you don't like and imagine if it was as popular as CoD then imagine what it would be like to see it everywhere and hear about it everywhere and all that. It's easy to miss when you like it because you like it.

That it takes 2 years to make doesn't change the fact that it's a yearly release.

I was hesitant about this game at first... The only reason I eventually picked up MW3 was to finish what little story it had, and that was after a while when the game got cheap and I still feel slightly ripped off. >_>

But I agree, this game is looking different and the setting alone is making me really interested.

Thank you for posting this for the bad kids. You're definitely one of the more intelligent posters on the COD boards.

I have always liked the "same old game". That's what people love to tell me about WaW and BO: they were "the same old game". Only for me, it wasn't. Guns actually recoiled / did less damage in those games, map design was great (esp. in WaW) and innovations such as sticky grenades, unscoped snipers, aesthetic customization of weapons, two concepts of extended magazine attachments, flamethrowers, and weak knifing made the games so much different for me. That's why I'm excited for BO2: most of these classic features were not as common in noob-friendly games like MW2 and MW3, and BO2 will feature more on top of these!

yes its the same formula and that isnt going to change people, so stop complaining.

However I think everything else has changed dramatically like maps, guns, killstreaks, perks, combinations, general feel.

What are you talking about? Black Ops 2 is different, it's in the future.
