My Idea for a balance between CoD points and traditional unlocking.

I think COD Points is a brilliant system that was unfortunately marred by marrying it to level gates.

I would prefer a system where the cost of a weapon or attachment was inversely proportional to level or weapon experience. Such as, if you want to unlock the [last weapon unlock] at level 4, it'll cost you a ton of COD points. Conversely, if you want to unlock [the first weapon unlock] at level 55, it'll cost basically nothing.

more or less my system. except mine its an established price regardless of level.

That's a dramatic and differentiating distinction with wide reaching gameplay consequences.

why? the "final" weapon would cost 100k, and like i said, average earning per match is 800. youre not going to get it anytime soon.

There you go, exactly. I would've been fine with CoD points if only there wasn't any level requirements to get the weapons you wanted. That was incredibly stupid that you had to level up, and on top of that you had to spend the points you earned.

buying things shouldn't be in the game, period.

I didn't like COD points, I think the beauty and simplicity of the class system comes with using traditional RPG elements in an FPS. RPGs traditionally involve grinding to unlock something at a certain level (or amount of kills). I love the MW2 system, where you have to use a weapon a lot to unlock the more specialised attachments. (Compare a basic all-purpose red dot sight's level to a thermal sight's level, which is only good in certain situations) And I think that's how it should be done, basic attachments at the start, with specialised attachments at the end.

YES. Exactly. I agree with you fully, and I loved MW2's system the best, except for maybe the extended mags part. But hell, Extended mags is arguably one of the best attachments in the game, so damn, you better earn it.

And I think I really like MW2's system because it really does use traditional RPG elements. I'm starting to think whoever likes CoD points never was a fan of RPG's. Any RPG player really shouldn't mind the grind.

I'll never understand why some people would willingly choose the needless grinding for attachments/perks over the freedom to choose what order you get them in.

Most people just want to have fun playing the game.....they don't get any sense of "earning" something just because they put up with some annoying grind like FMJ kills for extended mags. IMO there should just be xp bonuses and title/emblems to be "earned" for the people that enjoy those grinding challenges. Seems like both sides would be happy with that compromise.

I'll agree that FMJ challenge was a little annoying but it wasn't THAT hard. Personally i hated CoD points. Too few to get anything good for the first 15 levels after which you'd be getting more than enough so spending them meant nothing - so why bother?

the thing with CoD is that really there isn't that much difference between weapons in a particular class. If they got better you'd expect to pay more - but Blops gave you more even though the weapons were similar to what you had already and the cost stayed the same too. Basically this isn't something which needed to be fixed yet Treyarch still felt the need to mess with it. Casauls don't care that they haven't got red tiger camo and the rest of us don't mind getting 150 headshots so they should have left it as it was.

I agree. the weapons in Blops were pretty much always the same in each class.

You lost me when you used the word "grind".

Don't level up but have a price multiplier.

So first is $200.....$1000....3rd $5,000 ..ect..
