What determines a good CoD player?

Claymore camping with scavenger then backing into a corner with my SMG is what makes me good.

Oh I've got probably 7000-8000 kills with pistols, they're absurdly powerful and beat primaries all the time. It was just really my connection the other day that was screwing me, I couldn't get anything going. I could round the corner already ADS'ing with an MP7 and get outgunned by a guy running with an LMG who doesn't have Quickdraw or Dexterity on... It just wasn't happening for me so I shut the game off.

Agreed that connection plays a factor.

And it strikes when you least expect it. One day you're shutting down an entire clan the next thing you know you're getting spawn raped by split screeners.

Exactly. I don't want to say it plays the only role in it, but it does play a huge and crucial role for the games you do really well and really poor in.

Ever have one of those games where there's someone on the enemy team that you just can't seem to kill, but you're destroying the rest of the team? Happens to me sometimes and I gotta say it's connection. I've got tons of playtime in this game, other CoDs, and other FPS's, so I know when I'm losing a gun fight legit and know when I'm losing a gunfight to some BS connection issues.

2 of the people I party up with regularly are my IRL friend who live less than 5 miles away. I had them over a few weeks ago and we were drinking and split screening. They saw my connection first hand go from godly to 'youseriousbro?'. I'm running FiOS with 75/35 speeds, ping under 10 to a server 50 miles away, and ping under 80 to a server 2550 miles away in California.

Haha yeah.

I've actually had matches where I'd be kicking ass hardcore and then suddenly everything goes to crap because of lag. Makes me wonder if Treyarch is lag switching just for the fun of it once in awhile lol.

When I get lag I tell my friends: "Yup Treyarch is lag switching me again cause they're mad at how awesome I am".

Nothing beats the host migration destruction. Start off 45-3 with a nuclear medal, host migration hits, finish 50-20 with numerous comeback medals lol.

Someone like XCAL is the epitome of a good player. Any lobby, any map, any mode, any weapon and he will dominate it. There are other players like him but he was the first that sprung to mind.

Connection isn't nearly as important as people seem to think. Unless you're consistently on a 1-2 bar it shouldn't make that big of a difference.
