I've recently found out about this game on Steam and am really interested in playing it as I used to play Magic back in the day. However I still have a few reservations about it and was hoping a few people could try and confirm them.
Is it true that you can't make fully customized decks? Can you only slightly modify the existing ones? How in-depth is the modifying/customization of the existing decks?
Are the Deck Keys available on Steam new decks you have to buy? Does that mean if I want more Decks, I have to buy them?
Personally I hope this isn't the case. I had a pretty fun goblin deck back in the day and wanted to recreate/update it. Having to buy Goblin Gangland deck key to even have a goblin deck in the first place leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The fact that I won't be able to potentially change it much is worse.
Again, I'm not saying this is game is bad or anything. I just want some confirmation of a few details before biting the bullet. Better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks in advance.
You cannot freely make a deck. There are ten decks available which you can unlock further cards for and then customize, but you can't, for instance, mash Chandra's red and Jace's blue decks together.
I haven't actually looked into the keys on steam yet, but one of the ten default decks unlocked in campaign mode is a mean little goblin deck, so you at least don't have to worry about that.

Alright, so there is a degree a customization, so that's good.
If someone can shed more information on what they deck keys actually are, I would really appreciate it. If it's straight up buying new decks, then I'm not too sure I want to get into it until the "complete" version of this game (bundled with everything) comes out.
The bundled version only comes out just before the new game comes out. So you would be waiting a long while for that. The deck keys are just unlocks for the decks that can be earned via normal game play.
As for customization, there is about 36 non basic land cards in each deck. Then you can unlock an additional 40 for a total of around 76 cards to build with per deck. Some of the decks have a few different ways you can build them as well.

A deck key just unlocks the deck fully. If you dont want to buy a deck key, you need to win with each deck 30 times to unlock all the cards.

There are 10 decks, all of which are unlocked for free by playing.
A deck has on average 35 nonland cards in it and up to 40 more cards can be unlocked.
So essentially for each deck you get to choose which 35 spells to run out of a pool of 75. But you cannot use cards from other decks. (e.g. one of the blue decks has Counterspell whereas the other blue deck has Mana Leak.. there is no way to have both in the same deck)
Once you buy the game you can get everything in it for free. You could pay to unlock decks/cards without having to unlock them yourself by playing, but this is optional.
That said the 5 DLC decks have been leaked. They haven't been released yet but I'm guessing we will have to pay for those. I look forward to them, I just hope the iPad gets them too.
This adds a 100 more cards to the game and most of them are pretty damned good.
