Tail locations et al

Finally I've become a proud owner of tails of all colors. Should I exchange them for those weapons? They look rather underwhelming for all the troubles..... Here are the locations after the final chapter where I found the tails (please correct any mistake!):

- Red Tail: Deist Cave. Dropped by Chimera. The Japanese site also said Deist's surroundings in the final chapter.
- Blue Tail: Underwater temple. Just dive right into the bubbles (the one on the left, not at the top) at the dock in Rusalka. Dropped by Aqua Rex. I also found one by chance near Forest of Fey. The Japanese site said both the surroundings of Rusalka and Kurgis once you enter the final chaper.
- Green Tail: Mazewood. Dropped by Torosaurus. Japanese site said also available in areas surrounding Alfheim in the final chapter.
- Pink Tail: Dropped by Flan Princess (the jello looking mob, no idea where the tail part comes from...) The big island between Coliseum and Falgabard. This is the only tail that cost me significant time, partly because I had to reconfigure the team for the auto modo against the princess. Equip your team with anti-berserk items. Also I would avoid the desert because you may bump into those annoying cactuars.
- Yellow Tail: Fabrica's surroundings. Dropped by Great Avian. Japanese site doesn't list it as an obtainable item during the Memorist Chapter.
- Grey Tail: Falgabard's surroundings. Dropped by Gorgling Rabbit. Japanese site also lists a peninsula northwest of Dark Forest (I think it means Umberwood only reachable by black Chocobo during the Dark Knight Chapter. I don't recall the map before the shift so I have no idea what it refers to.
- Gold Tail: Burtgang's surroundings. Dropped by Golden Dragon. Burtgang Castle during the Knight Chapter, according to the Japanese site.
- Silver Tail: Island north of Hagakure. Dropped by Silver Dragon. Japanese site said also Hagakure's surroundings during the final chapter and Akame Valley during the Ninja Chapter. I tried Akame Valley in the final chapter but had no luck.

Other stuff
- Saber Dance. Remember at the beginning you found a secret passage to get into Lux Castle? Where you pushed one of the columns outside the castle? Try again when the castle is in another dimension and it will lead you to a mob that will teach you this dance, after you beat her.
There is no strategy to speak of, or rather, it's more like a kitchen sink strategy. Forget about heal, war cry, haste, blink etc, go for the biggest damage you can do since she will cast doom on everyone in your party right off the bat. It's just a matter of whether you can do enough damage to kill her off within a limited timeframe. Oh, equip everyone with anti-Confuse.

- Miracle Shoes: I haven't got this yet. But according to the Japanese site. You can fight a mob in the forest in the Nil World left of Alfheim to get it. The mob is located in the center of the forest on a plain, it said. Put on anti-Confuse items as well, and if you can, anti-Poison. Also if you have it, cast Res-Light. It says HP 3000....

- Heroic Song. The first girl you met in Alfheim near the warp point will teach you this song if you have a master bard in the active party.

- Lastly in case anyone hasn't noticed (like me until late in the game), you can turn all your inactive party members as healers and use cure, esuna etc when you aren't in a battle.

Have fun!

Awesome list! Thanks!

The yellow and pink tails are probably not obtainable by random drops during their respective chapters, because in the Japanese version they were accessible via long mini-games instead (coliseum and casino). Since the coliseum is not open then in the US version, it's possible they made the Giant Avian accessible, but I'm skeptical.

Thanks for the list, it might be useful to add the chapters i.e dark/light warrior path so i added that info at the end.

- Red Tail: Deist Cave. Dropped by Chimera. [Light Warriors - Chp 1 - Dragoon]

- Blue Tail: Underwater temple. Just dive right into the bubbles (the one on the left, not at the top) at the dock in Rusalka. Dropped by Aqua Rex. [Light Warriors - Chp 2 - Bard ]

- Green Tail: Mazewood. Dropped by Torosaurus. Japanese site said also available in areas surrounding Alfheim in the final chapter. [Dark Warriors - Chp 1 - Ranger]

[Light Warriors - Memorist?]
[NOTE: Can also be bought in the casino for 50000 coins during Chp 3 - Dark Warriors - Dancer]

- Yellow Tail: Fabrica's surroundings. Dropped by Great Avian. Japanese site doesn't list it as an obtainable item during the Memorist Chapter. [Light Warriors - Memorist]
NOTE: It can be obtained in the Memorist Chapter. (I got it as rare drop from the Great Avian and it somehow was easier than getting the grey tail).

- Grey Tail: Falgabard's surroundings. Dropped by "Gorging Rabbit." Japanese site also lists a peninsula northwest of Dark Forest (I think it means Umberwood only reachable by black Chocobo during the Dark Knight Chapter. I don't recall the map before the shift so I have no idea what it refers to.)
Yes you are right, it is the circular peninsula only accessible by a Black Chocobo. [Dark Warriors - Dark Knight]

Bonus questions:

Do the casino items change after you finish the Chp3 Dancer Chapter?

What chapter can you get the Saber Dance at the earliest?

I think the Flan Princess / Cactuar island is accessible during the Dancer chapter, via Black Chocobo. (Not Memorist.) So perhaps the pink tail is available as a drop there, too!

Casino items change. There is a list here somewhere.

You cannot get Saber Dance until around the middle of the last set of dungeons.

Wow! I never knew about the area below Lux and the Saber Dance, that was a pretty cool area. A free Ribbon and a Gladius!

The Miracle Shoes would be pretty neat if they were better than a Ribbon. Too bad.

Same here, I was actually right in the Lux castle in the Void when I read your post. I completely forgot to check the passage under the castle :)

It's nice to have another dance in my list. By the way, the cave also has a chest holding a nice Ribbon (western part).

Cheers!

These are all available still at the end of the game during World of Dusk, right?
#9slartiferPosted 10/5/2012 1:06:58 PM
Yes.

And if you don't want to grind the usual way, they are apparently all available as rare Arena prizes too. Unless you optimize your grinding setup with a kajillion special abilities and rings, the Arena is probably faster.

Thanks for the other tips - I didn't know about Saber Dance. I'll go check it out right now :)
