Yeah, I would start with 3 if you're just looking to get into the EO series, but it's kind of hard to go back to the older games, especially 1, since it adds so much. It is my favorite of the three though and the difficulty curve is smoothest there, although I enjoy all three of the games quite a bit. If you like dungeon crawlers (which I'd assume you do since you're on this board) I'd give them a try. --- Official Remiel of the SMT IV Board.
yeah, I'd suggest starting with either EO1 or 2, since 3 adds enough neat features that it is hard to go back, but the early ones are certainly excellent games. 3 is also not as well balanced, making it easier. 2 is probably over all the best game. --- Playing: Gungnir & Unchained Blades Cannot Wait For: 3DS XL w/Soul Hackers, SMT 4 & EO 4 (& season 7 of Doctor Who!)
Interesting. I usually play games for the story, but I love dungeon crawler rpgs so I may just get into them. Since they're Atlus games, Im guessing I should buy them online instead of trying to find them at stores... --- http://megidoladyne.webs.com/ <- Shin Megami Tensei news ^^ http://www.backloggery.com/dragard
I got a 3DS because I had a hunch that it will essentially be my portable PS2 as far as good quality games (specifically jrpgs). Thus far my hunch was right. If this gen is any indication then the 3DS will likely be my main system for the upcoming gen. Plus phat DS was ready for retirement. So it needed a good successor.
My main system sellers that make me glad to have a 3DS are...
-Kingdom Hearts 3D -Devil Survivor Overclocked (even though I beat the vanilla version) -Soul Hackers -Shin Megami Tensei 4 -Bravely Default -Fire Emblem -Smash Bros
Then there is the possible unannounced Persona title (so long it's not P3DS) and the FFV and FFVI remakes. Not to mention I could play SJ and DeSu2 on my 3DS as well to get my megaten fix besides our two (possibly 3) upcoming megatens. --- "The best in the world"
This talk about Etrian Odyssey... I haven't played a game in the series yet, but I heard good things about it and bought EO3 from Amazon earlier today (and man, from the prices of them new, the game seems pretty rare). I was under the impression that EO3 was the best, but EO2 is? ...Well, either way, if I like it, then I'll add EO4 to my list of upcoming 3DS games to get. --- http://backloggery.com/SolarCrimson - My Backloggery http://i.imgur.com/jgRqR.png http://i.imgur.com/CsgLw.png http://i.imgur.com/zVchI.png
It depends on your taste. 2 was a bit of a transitional period, and while it fixed a number of issues from 1, some of the solutions felt kind of clunky in their own right until 3 (like monsters ambushing you at gathering points and Force Skills). On the other hand 2 may be the hardest game in the series if you don't go out of your way to cheese it, and a lot of the Strata designs and music are very nice. --- Official Remiel of the SMT IV Board.
