DC has the most iconic comic book universe of all time. They also have the most well known and loved characters internationally. The whole world knows who Superman, The Joker invented an entire genre of villains, Catwoman is sex icon, Batman is the goddamn Batman.
I'm not saying Marvel doesn't have any icons, but we all know they aren't as big as DC's. Yet despite all that, Marvel is KILLING DC in comic book and movie sales. How is this even possible?

One, Superman is pretty boring. You have to kill him or make him evil to add interest Two, Batman is popular right now because of the Nolan films. A lot of hipsters are on the bandwagon but the don't care about the comics AT ALL Three, Spiderman. SPIDERMAN Four, Marvel has had far better films over the last 5 years Five, Marvel has a larger amount of recognizable characters to average person
Marvel's media presence is bigger and Cartoon Network screwed over the few good cartoons DC had.
Additionally New 52 is pretty garbage (except for a handful of titles) and pissed off a lot of their old fans, whereas Marvel NOW embraced it's history while also allowing new readers to easily jump on.
