NEILELLIEPosted 12/8/2012 1:02:45 PM | Didn't really notice it at first but when you look around it looks like you are looking through a dirty window all the time its never really clear. When you compare this to some of the graphics on simular games on say the Xbox this looks like some game from years ago from the gamecube,
So why did ubisoft not give this a proper HD look considering it was going to be a launch game for a new HD console. |
Rikkus_dadPosted 12/8/2012 1:15:34 PM (edited) | I haven't played this game yet but... "it looks like you are looking through a dirty window all the time"
Sounds more like a grain filter rather than "poor" graphics.
Is it like the bottom image?:

--- It's "I couldn't care less" NOT "I could care less"!! Why do 90% of English speakers get this wrong? |
NEILELLIE (Topic Creator) Posted 12/8/2012 1:14:21 PM | Its not grain, its clearly been done for the game but dont really show off the HD side of things, I knw they need to make an atmosphere and all that but they also need to rememebr this is a HD console so need to show off HD graphics as well. Great game but graphically it look like a gamecube game. |
ApplecorpPosted 12/8/2012 1:18:09 PM | Yes it's a filter, I guess it all helps give it an authentic grim and dirty look of a zombie apocalypse world. ;)
Not sure why there is that black border effect (like looking through a telescope) around the edge of the screen though. |
kvmerPosted 12/8/2012 1:43:06 PM | It certainly looks a lot better than a Gamecube game. It just looks a bit average, no more, no less. Far off sights like the London Bridge looked pretty nice though, as it would on the other consoles. |
shawnmckPosted 12/8/2012 2:22:11 PM | This is just my theory, but... I think its because of two main reasons...
First, I think the game was rushed. There were other things that were supposed to go into this game that didn't make it. And the game was originally scheduled for a Feb 2013 release, but got pushed forward to Dec 2012, and then pushed up again to make launch in Nov. Its clear to me that this game needed more development time, but was rushed out the door to make launch. Secondly, I think the Developers were kinda going for a gritty aesthetic from the beginning. I personally believe that they would have cleaned things up a little bit, but got rushed into getting the game to make launch day of the Wii-U, and so they just skipped on tweaking the graphics.
^But that's just my impression.
I honestly don't mind the graphics as much because it lends itself well to the overall theme of the game...but anyone who thinks that this game looks better than anything on the XB 360 &/or PS3 really needs to have their eyes checked. But its a launch game, and it works well with the style of the game...so I can give it some slack. |

I agree, thats why I said it looks a bit like a gamecube game especially when compared to even an average first person style game on the Xbox 360 or PS3. The game is really good but would have been a lot better if it had even basic HD graphics. I find it hard to believe this is becaUse it is rushed as surely the graphics engine would have been one of the first things they did. I guess its bern made to look this way to fit in with the style of game it is or maybe the WIIU just cant output fantastic graphics like the XB360 or PS3. |
nunyetPosted 12/8/2012 6:09:00 PM | Usually you don't see the best graphics a system can put out until later in it's life cycle, as the developers build better engines and learn how to better take advantage of the systems capabilities.
I did notice the sub par graphics when I was watching my friend play, but when you play it yourself you are too focused or paranoid to really give a crap about graphics. Atmosphere/lighting in this game is top notch, and makes up for any fault in graphics in my opinion. |

I wouldn't exactly call that poor. The hands/bat and enemy don't look that great, but the environment does. --- Read the mania: http://www.fanfiction.net/~nonexistinghero In SA2, it's Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow. |
