gun levels?

how does it work i see 4 bars whith different guns i'll asume those are the levels but what does it do... also do i lose levels when i die?

are upgrades linked to this? do i lose them when i die?

Upgrades that you put into a gun are permanent. Even if you die and lose the gun, when you find it again it will retain its upgrades.
When you kill enough zombies with a certain gun type (handgun, crossbow, carbine, SMG, assault rifle or shotgun), you will level up with that weapon type. The higher the level you are with a gun class, the faster you can switch, ready and reload guns of that class. The highest level you can achieve for each class is four. However, unlike gun upgrades, your weapon levels will reset if you die.
