Hi guys, currently playing through the career on hard and I'm really struggling. Any hints or tips would be welcome. Does it matter which character you do it with? Because once you unlock the balanced mod it's all very similar is it not? x

Work on mastering drifting as it's pretty well the most important tool in the game. Also try working on risk boosts for the plane sections (if you don't know what that is, it's using the right stick on the gamepad to dodge out of the way of a wall at the last second while in plane mode).

Ok thanks! And does characters matter? Or are they all basically the same once they are leveled up? x

I am just started on A Class as well having just completed all of the cups in B Class. Here is what is helping me:

1. Boost whenever possible. Drift through every turn to boost. Stunt off of every jump to boost. The faster you can go the better.

2. Learn the track. Take the shortest routes possible. Cling to the inside of turns when you drift.

3. Cut out your mistakes. If you tend to crash on a certain turn remember it and figure out how to avoid crashing.

As far as which mod is best I would imagine it depends on your play style. I always want the most handling I can get (I am working on leveling up all of the characters as I complete all o the cups). Handling is top priority for me. I need to be able to handle my vehicle. Others mods that could be helpful is the acceleration mod (if you crash a lot) or the speed mod (if you do not).

When choosing a character there are things to be aware of;

Speed, Boost and Handling are the stats you want to pay attention to. Acceleration is okay but when you get into A/S rank if you're relying on acceleration to help you win a race you aren't focusing enough on drifting/using weapons. You should never rely on All Star so the stat is useless.

On A and S rank boosting is the most important thing. You can drift and get a boost on 80% of all of the tracks out there. If you master drifting you'll be chaining boosts everywhere so having a 4 or 5 star boost rating will make a speed rating of even 3 seem fast. That being said, go for characters with at least 3 speed and boost. From there its up to you to decide on whether to choose someone with more boost or more speed.

Handling is up to you. Personally I don't like high handling unless I'm doing a drift/ring race. Having a handling rating of 2 or 3 is fine for me. If you get used to a 3 for handling you can easily get characters with 4/4 for speed and boost.

Also, make note of track layouts. Tracks with a lot of flying or long stretching of straight driving benefit from higher speed stats (like the sonic casino level or the carrier ship level, cant remember the names offhand). Tracks with turns all over the place, such as Burning Rangers's track or Curien's Mansion will benefit from boost because of the drifting you will do.

When battling or versing, acceleration and handling take a higher precedence since the goal isn't to outrace but to out battle. And that's all I can think of right now.

If you want racers that I find worthwhile, Danica, Vyse, Shadow and Metal Sonic are wonderful. Gilius is good on boost races and Tails is good on drifting challenges. Vyse's handling mod got me through the majority of A/S Ring races.

I've found that a cheap way to win races is to keep an All-Star item to the last lap and use it when in the last 2/3rds of the track pass everyone and they have no time to catch up. Ofcourse for this you need to be able to catch up with just your driving.

The difficulty is hard, but after doing some world tours in A class eventually it becomes simple.

Just make sure to have very good handling when it comes to traffic attacks!

That is not cheap at all. That is a valid tactic. I just cleared the track with the whirlpool water section at the end of it on A Class in the World Tour Mode by doing exactly that. I got an All Star and waited until the last lap and hit it going into the water section so that while everyone else was in boat form (the slowest form) I was in plane form (the fastest form). I jumped from fourth place to first place. Good tactic.
