Subbing sucks in this game.

It ruins the depth and any chance of this game having serious competitiveness because of the gimped defense. Some players will take all of your subs early on in a fight, and you'll be forced to take every subsequent hit like a *****, while if it were Storm 1, you could skillfully anticipate and get out of attacks, so long as you had chakra. Storm 2 had it much easier, and that was worse, since you could just spam it and always escape, but at least there always was the timing aspect. Gens has no timing. It has, what, four (lol?) auto-dodges and then a rest period where everything will hit you unless you're blocking. Low-priority characters be damned.

Just because you mash the guard button in Storm 1 doesn't mean that's how it was meant to be. That subbing system was near-perfect, and they ****** it up so hard, now. When your opponent spams and has five subs and you have none because you never got the chance to attack - and now you can't counterattack, at all, you know you're playing a badly designed game.

Not saying this game is bad, but the substitution system is garbage, and it always will be. It takes all of the skill out of the game, and that's why you see so many noobs beating up on pros. I've never seen a game before with such weak defense, except perhaps SCV, and this is pathetic. I can't even think of another game that says "You've dodged too much, now stop and get hit by the next ten combos until we decide you can evade again." like this.

Honestly, they should scrap the entire sub bar system and link it with the chakra bar, as it was.

I tend to balance my sub usage pretty well, so I don't run into that issue often.

Who are you? This is a fighting game, remember? Or are you one of those casuals with no timing, who needs everything spoon-fed to them?

I know what kind of game it is. It's a casual's fighting game. I guess you could say I'm a casual in that I don't play the game that often, but I do have timing (I come from SSF4) and I don't suck at the game by any means. And I don't need everything spoon-fed either.

I've only seen people complain about the sub system if they don't know how to use them properly.

i agree with you that the subs should be linked to the chakra bar, however;

-subbing should not be as difficult as it was in storm 2, gen and storm 3 subbing is good
-chakra is way too easy to recover and use. reduce chakra charging to how it is in the UN games where it takes ages to charge fully. chakra orbs also become more useful this way.
-triple the amount of chakra that it took to sub in storm 2. storm 2's subbing was just far too cheap.

if these three changes are made then subbing will be fair again.

That argument again. "If you don't like it, get better." Well then, I guess I'll just get hit by that combo, next time. I won't sub.

The problem is that it's a stupid feature in the first place because it makes defense useless once it's gone. Any good player will break your guard, by at least the second attempt. And if you somehow have the advantage, being able to counter, if you have no subs or less than your opponent, you'll be dissuaded from countering, anyway, since they can just auto-sub out.

The way you sub is broken. Don't move the LS and you're instantly behind. No timing required, whatsoever.

Managing them is stupid, since it's just a fight to force your opponent to use theirs first, instead of fighting to deplete the HP bar and maintain your chakra.

Once one or two people are low on or out of subs, battles degenerate into a form of keep-away, since any counter attack that successfully lands might lead to the attacker ending the match.
