In less than 12 hours, tomorrow morning, Friday, 2/22 at 3 am PST/6 am EST we will have Yoshi-P delivering another live showcase for us. Worth noting, however, the YouTube link has a countdown suggesting it starts at 2 am PST/5 am EST though maybe it opens an hour before to set-up and such. I know just yesterday they spent about 30 minutes 'testing' the setup live over YouTube though also. Either way, I'm posting this now in case you didn't know, or, like myself, am just going to set my alarm an hour earlier than I usually get up on Friday mornings to hear/see some new FFXIV goodness.
It's anyone's guess as to what exactly will be shown/told but the meat of it will probably include information regarding the start of the beta, next Monday, and maybe some details for down the line as well. I also am not sure if it will be presented 'live' with English commentary, regardless, they state it will be all written up concisely/translated and put on the official forums shortly after. We know new screens and new video will be shown during this though, that is a given.
The media tour Yoshi & co. just ran from San Francisco to the UK has concluded and as such some new images, videos, and articles, as well as the official FFXIV benchmark, have popped up:
'Exploration' Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uP3QJQ0bd-U
(This is the video that runs for the benchmark. Check out ~3:00 in and look closely for Genbu. Hint: he's grown.)
Developer's Commentary 'Gamepads' Video:
A Tour of Eorzea - Part 1 Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW6fL5X1fM4
*Remember, another benchmark will be released shortly before commercial release which will include the character creator as well.
All this being said and done, I think from what I've seen today, at least in my eyes, is the start of the 'media-blitz'/ramp-up hype of this game up til release, which should happen within the next ~5 months or so, give or take a month according to their most recent road-map, which has been only slightly delayed.
If you haven't signed up yet for the beta and wish to do so (for PC or PS3) this is the North American link:
Worth noting, if you didn't read the beta road-map or forgot, is that everyone is guaranteed a spot in Phase 4, which is open, and they plan to carry over the progress you make in that phase into retail release. It can't hurt to sign-up earlier though just in case you get selected before Phase 4. Anyone who has previously played FFXIV 1.0 will be able to play from Phase 3 on. Of course, the Legacy members know they will be starting on Monday with Phase 1. Phase 3 is when the PS3 starts its Beta alongside the PC version. Anyone who has owned 1.0 gets to download the 2.0 client for free and everyone has their first 30 days free.
Hi. How ya' doin'?
I'm ready to stress test the s*** out of Phase 1. Monday is only a day away. Well actually four.
