Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has managed to smash the previous record of concurrent users for an open beta.
The record was initially broken yesterday, when Director Yoshida tweeted that the servers were undergoing some serious stress due to there being 120,000 concurrent users. Because of this, Square Enix has had to add two additional servers in Japan. These two servers are called Typhon and Ultima.
However, less than 24 hours later, Square Enix had to update fans by stating that they had broken the record again - this time by having 150,000 concurrent users.
Despite this huge influx of users, apparently not too many people are interested in playing tanks. In another tweet, Yoshida appealed to gamers to play some more of the supporting roles in order to help balance the experience. There are apparently not enough Marauders or Gladiators in Eorzea.
The previous record for concurrent users in an open beta was held by Phantasy Star Online 2. This saw 107,259 players online at the same time on the 24th of July.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn releases on both the PlayStation 3 and PC in a few weeks. There's also a version planned for the PS4, which will appear at a later date.

Tank master race reporting in
Very old news and this isn't anything new anyways. Oh noes, low number of tanks in an MMO?!
Solid's snake still shoots liquid, it's just that it's null.
Tricky subject. Like, if we had all the bad ACN or ARC playing tanks then there would be so many dungeon wipes that the average ragequit would skyrocket to an all time record breaking number in video game history.
It was a mixture of many reasons, one of the biggest being that ARN was finally put in just this phase, and everyone was eager to test the new job out, which meant that many more DD seeking this phase. Toss in obligatory 3102 remarks, as well as people taking up other professions most likely to prep for unlocks on their level 30 quests and the usual ho hum for abilities to use.
Not much to worry about for just a 2-3 day testing phase. Now if they come out and say this a month or so later after the first month trial ends, there's something to worry about.

I'll be tanking. Saw tons of other marauders during open, though it seemed like most of them were under the misconception it was a dps class.
Being a tank isn't easy and to top it off very low dps, they need to make it more attractive to play than the way it is if not we will have a healer or dps as tanks lol.
not hard to see why, people like write nasty hurtful things when a tank isn't doing so well.
