Offering a Tank as a paid service and I was belittled and demeaned

I was advertising myself as a mercenary basically. Tanks are in demand and will let DPS classes skip ahead into insta-queues if they party with a tank. I simply advertised myself as someone who would tank full dungeons to those willing to pay. I didn't even set a price. It was whoever was willing to pay with however much they wanted to offer, and I was called "fail," "desperate" and "exploiting the weak."

I'm a character who has a role in demand and I wasn't even hurting anybody by offering to be paid gil in exchange for tanking. I don't see why selling on the market board can be one of the only ways to make gil in this game. Why is the community so repulsed by me simply wanting to exchange a service I offer for gil?

You wouldn't do it out of the goodness of your heart? You're like mean, or something.

I would if the tank was reputable. Otherwise I'd hire any jobs worth.

I guess I'm awful.

Not like I'm even putting myself up onto some high and mighty pedestal. Just saying that I can help out if I can be paid.

Well, generally, when people remain anonymous, their inner dickishness comes out. Other than that, it's pretty common for that to happen with tanks and healers.

'I'm offended by that.' As if it gave them certain rights. It's nothing more than a...whine. It has no purpose. 'I'm offended by that.' Well, so ****ing what.

I'd actually like to build a reputation out of this. I am a great tank and I'm friendly with new players who need things explained. But obviously it won't happen overnight, especially with people so disgusted with the idea of paying someone for something they would get by waiting an hour... I guess?

Being a bad DPS takes no skills, anyone can run in and grab aggro.

I offer tank for money as well and generally don't get harassed about it. Lots of people don't think it's a service worth paying for but they usually steer clear of personal attacks.

I don't spam and I don't present it like a jerk. If you're getting harassed as much as you suggest I would think you need to look at how you're wording your advertisements. If you're sending tells to people LFG or seeking a tank then that's your first mistake.
