one of the first things they said about this game was that it would be developed with assassin's creed in mind. that the cities and lightning's ability to traverse through them would be reminiscent of the creed games.

Though I don't recall SE themselves making the direct reference to AC themselves, the comparisons to it were some of the stuff that was around the community since this game was first announced. So no surprise to me
