The original Final Fantasy on the NES, and have played every game since then up to XIII (haven't played XIII-2, or X-2 yet, but meh) and think that while there are some interesting changes through the years, I personally think that some of the games could have been better given some more time.
I feel like the series hasn't been the same since the PS2 era started. I still like the series, but I think SE is trying to hard to fix something that wasn't broken. The formula was the same for the 9 numbered games. It worked and they were good games, and as the technology was getting better they adapted to it well..
I still like X XII and XIII. X had it's moments but I've only played through it twice. XII was all right, would have been better without Vaan. I like XIII, I understand why people don't like it, and it really doesn't warrant the 2 sequels it has. I'll still play them though.
I started with X and worked my way back through all of the games. Even today, I think X tells the best story out of all the major ones.
I made it a personal mission to play each of the main entries, and I've long since accomplished that. Along with X, I really loved Tactics Advanced and IV.
I'm not that bummed out about the series as a whole. I wish we could drop the XIII stuff however. Considering that XIII had a rather poor narrative in my opinion, I can't uderstand why they feel the need to continue on with it, when games like VIII and XII could really benefit from an expanded mythos.
One game I've been wishing desperatly someone at SE would pitch is a prequel to X, where you play as Braska, Jecht, and Auron on their pilgramage. That would be a great game.
started with ff7. after i played ff12 it got boring to me. i didnt even bother finishing it nor did i bother looking up a ending. i find it amazing that people give ffx-2 all the hate when its not even all that bad. infact why did people even take that game seriously? --- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIWwSPavmlM
I started with Final Fantasy 1. Great game. Damn Marsh Cave. Ugh. My favorite in the series is FFVI. I consider it the absolute best of the series, without competition.
I feel that the series as a whole has... decreased in overall value. Don't get me wrong, the series has had it's bad games in the past (FFII, anyone?)), but they seem more frequent in recent years. Either I just can't get into them, I cannot stand the protagonist, or I don't care about/for the story. I haven't purchased a Final Fantasy game since X (which I sold after dragging myself through it). I have played them all, though, save for the online ones. --- 100% CJ = 100% victory tbh, Chris Johnson should go back... to Mount Olympus. - Bio_Insanity
