That could be said for pretty much every JRPG.
And FF happens to do it better than most.

Final Fantasy is to the JRPG genre what Sword Art Online is to anime. Right down to the "the masses love it but it really isn't that good" part.

That would be Pokemon.

I hear its amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hari Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!

Pokemon is a thing of its own.

Doesn't cahnge the fact that the "the masses love it but it really isn't that good" description fits perfectly.

So?
If the masses love it, it can't be good?

Okay, let me rephrase it to reflect what I originally meant it to mean. The masses think it's amazing and gods gift to gaming when it isn't even that good.

The FF franchise is always treated like it's this amazing unparalleled series, when really it's cliche, corny, and uninspired, but with incredibly high production values. Just like SAO.

I'm sorry, but you are really describing the Pokemon franchise right now.

Rainbow Dash is best pony. The only argument I will accept is for Twilight Sparkle.

Meh, all three Final Fantasy games are basically around the same rank. Without seeing the actual numbers, I'm going to call that a wash.

I'm more surprised that none of those games are even in the top 10. Can that be indicative of the waning faith Japanese gamers have in Square Enix?
