Some_Static posted... Well, on the one hand, they ended FF13-2 with the intention of another game, as is clear. Plus, they're making this a different kind of game, and they're trying to make it with the idea that people who haven't played FF13 and 13-2 could play it (we'll see if they actually do that with the writing).
Well if a story fails spectacularly and you don't agree with the sales, then you don't make another one even if you blessed your creation with the cliffhanger to end all cliffhanger. You're not going to sell "I know the game will fail and sell less, but we DID end on a cliffhanger..." to your investors. One example of this would be The Force Unleashed 2. Ended on a cliffhanger but it failed spectacularly and the franchise was burned and abandoned.
I'm not saying that this should be the fate of Final Fantasy, but SE are the only ones who would make a sequel to a game like The Abomination, a sequel to the game that split the fanbase.
I'd also argue the sanity of making the third game in any series serve as the jump-in game for new people. >.>
On the other hand, it really does seem like they're convinced that they should keep making FF13 games until Lightning is heralded as a classic and iconic character. And this is why they're utterly insane. SE is run by incompetent monkeys.
