Just looking at this comparison reminds me of how ugly the party was in IX.

Though, FFVII did have IMO Nomura's best designs, that's true.
FFIX is just really fantasy-like. People used to say childish in looks even, but that has stopped in recent years. Better said, people started to look beyond that.
