Because nobody in their right mind would want a sequel to X-2.

x-2 was pretty bad.. there were SOOO many better directions they could of gone with for a sequel to ff x..

No way in hell this 'story' was done before they started making the games. They might have planned two sequels (I doubt it), but they didn't plan anything for them.

That would make perfect sense, considering it just sort of...HAPPENS after XIII-2. It's like they didn't try particularly hard to connect any of the three games, aside from some arbitrary stuff.
