Lightning is Asian and she clearly hasn't caught on with the western fanbase. Would a Caucasian protagonist fare better?

I thought Lightning was Caucasian... Heck, the only main FF protagonist that actually looks Asian to me is Tidus (and Yuna, if you consider her a main protagonist).
