Why did they stop using the traditional Black Mages?

Because they didn't want to use the same black mage for 25 years.

i honestly dont know myself. then again this series doesnt need black mages. not the way its heading. what would be the use of a black mage when pratically everyone can cast black magic? could be fun enemies though.

im not changing this sig until i see a cutscene with lightning on the toilet. hell it doesnt have to be a long one

Because there isn't a job system. o.o The black mages in FF 9 were a race.

I miss the job system... Back then, Final Fantasy made sense. (Well, to me at least)

XIV does have the traditional Black Mage look expect for the blue robe.
