The personality should add depth to the plot and gameplay. As whiny add Titus could be, I liked his character. It was a growing story, rather than the "after growth" story of Squall and Cloud. They had already been trained and introduced to their threat before the story happened. Titus had to grow to the new world and truths he was exposed to. I think a good example of what NOT to do was Vaan. He really didn't add anything to the plot. Thinking back on twelve, I really can't recall much of it.
