Does FF Take Itself Too Seriously?

The next FF should be geared toward children with an emphasis on friendship like Kingdom Hearts.

Na, that's what I got KH for. Awesome series is awesome series. I don't need no ripoff of it.

no but the fanbase does.

This is so true. It's not the games it's the fans IMO.

The next FF should be a comedy.

I feel that FFVI, VII, and IX had the right balance. They had silly moments and very serious moments.

FF VI had the best of everything in the series ;)

Not limits or desperation attacks.

Anyways the Lightning Saga is hard to take seriously as I think Toriyama wrote it as a brilliant satire of the FF series as a whole.

Not necessarily CHILDREN, but the E crowd(Everybody, Kids to Adults). A good story can appeal to all different age brackets, and sometimes adults will pick up on themes that fly over children's heads. I think it SHOULD be this way rather than the FF series "growing up" with a certain group of people(or "trying to grow up, but can't"). It feels like it's in that awkward stage of wanting to have it's cake and eat it too. It wasn't to be serious, but doesn't want to be serious. It wants to appeal to a more older audience, but it's striving to do just that. Just open the floodgates and don't limit the rating to just one group. If that means cutting a little violence, swearing and partial-nudity, who cares? I'd sacrifice them for a better overall game, even if that game is more light-hearted and E-rated.

FF7 had the nailbat! It didn't take itself too seriously and we all were better for it.
