Having well known archetypes isn't a bad thing at all, it what's what you do with them. What are they beyond 'witty cool guy' and 'happy go lucky girl'? What situations do they get into? What about their dialogue? You can make any kind of character work if you know what you're doing. At the same time trying to avoid common tropes for the sake of trying to avoid them will probably not work out well.

You're right there.
It worked for FF10 (while it didn't for FF8 and FF13), so maybe it just really depends on the person responsible in how some character is presented.

Or in some instances it's just done better.
But hey, opinions. The magical word that makes saying Superman 64 is the best game ever not stupid.

I must say, having a clear structure to follow (imitate) must have really helped during development, noticeable when compared to XIII's development which was apparently chaotic.

I still dislike SW though.

I still dislike you.

I don't know whether to cry or laugh.

Cry, for you have gained my disapproval.

I thought that was the best of things. It's not?

I sense you are trying to imply something bad, therefore I will ignore it.

That makes you ignorant. I've heard that's a bad trait.

Blocking your thoughts does not make me ignorant. Quite the opposite actually.

But ignoring invaluable advice is the work of a fool.
