For me, their relationship was the stand out in the entire FFXIII trilogy. With all the garbage the first FFXIII's story was filled with, that relationship was done right. It was obvious they were lovers, but it wasn't thrown in our faces. Toriyama may be an average scriptwriter, but he had the confidence to present a homosexual couple in a mainline FF game, and he presented it rather well. That deserves some respect, IMO.
I just wish he had the confidence to make them kiss on the lips at some point, but then that would have made their sexual relationship too obvious. --- The Zodiac Brave Theory A groundbreaking new discovery about the story of Final Fantasy XII. Release: TBA
yeah I never got that vibe from them at all. I often wonder if people that do get that feeling about them have never once been in a situation where you've fought alongside someone, risked your life for them and and they've risked their life for you.
Lemme just spell it out as having been in that situation.
You become close...VERY close...possibly even closer then you would be with a lover, and yet there is little to no sexual attraction or interaction at all.
Being someones Lover doesn't mean you have the level of commitment and closeness to a person as someone who's been through hell with you, in fact most lovers tend to get jealous over how close two people who have been to hell and back are.
Course they could be and it wouldn't bother me either way I'd still think Fang is a great character, just never got the whole Vanille and Fang being lovers vibe. --- Iightningz posted... I hate Lightning.
I think the Fang and Vanille relationship is left somewhat ambiguous for the player. Still, I would like to see a main playable character or main npc have a homosexual identity in future FF games.
Actually, in the dialogue of the Japanese version, it's far less subtle that they're lovers. I think the English localization teams got rid of some of the more blatant homoerotic dialogue exchanged by the two. --- The Zodiac Brave Theory A groundbreaking new discovery about the story of Final Fantasy XII. I liked their lesbian relationship, it really added a nice touch to the series.
IMO, it's the saving grace of the first FFXIII's story. If that relationship wasn't in there, I'd be among the many who say the story off FFXIII was pure garbage. --- The Zodiac Brave Theory A groundbreaking new discovery about the story of Final Fantasy XII. Release: TBA
Just finished the Dead Dunes recently, I also liked this -
Lightning "Fang and Vanille ... they are bound by something stronger than family" ;o
Edit: TC in Lightning Returns, when the Order attacks Fang and Lightning in the Dead Dunes, where Fang is trying to get the Holy Clavis so the Order won't get it to Vanille --- Official "Vanille" of the Dissidia Duodecim boards "To hate, to hurt, to destroy ... I couldn't do it" - Vanille
