'I would do NOTHING to make a fighting game more accessible for newcomers.
Put in the time or get bodied, that's how it's supposed to be!'

You beat me to it! I totally agree if you haven't got game go and play mario bros or COD, back in the the days of 92 you either adapted or you were left to hang out, it was and should be that simple.

These lazy kids today want everything handed to them on a platter, nerf this, nerf that, dlc for this, dlc for that, utter nonesense! The rate at which we're going at you'll soon be able to FADC into an ultra by the tap of a single button and that will absolutely ruin the allure and charm of fighting games.

When I watch high level gaming (paticularly SF) I marvel at the hand eye coordination, the composure, the confidence and the dexterity to pull off some of the those difficult combos at such crucial moments in the matches they play, the joy of witnessing such high level play would be taken away if it all was reduced to the press of a single button, wouldn't it?

It's this simple, if it hasn't been done already that is, maybe an option should be available where you adjust your settings so you would face people of a certain calibre, ie time spent playing, battle points or maybe player points accrued, that way noobs wouldn't have their butts handed to them on a regular basis.
Other than that the games are just fine to me and should stay that way.

It boils down to this, if you want to be good, you have put in the hours, i'm not asking you to give up your day jobs but there simply isn't an easy road or a downloadable content to greatness! Another poster earlier was saying plinking and one frame links should be put in the tutorials which I believe is nonesense, it would probably scare off the noobs and besides if you want to get to the top you have to be willing to go that extra mile and if you won't, you don't and that's why they're casual players!

Put in the hours or GTFO!

These 'elites' you speak of wouldn't get along with anyone, let alone with people from other games; they go out of their way and look for conflict and drama.

At least in Monster Hunter all of the executions of the mechanics are rather simple, nothing that will be breaking your hand or giving you sore wrists. It's a challenging game with lots of patience, reflexes, and strategizing required but the controls are fairly straightforward and simple (and most everything makes sense).

The problem with fighting games is they go out of their way to be hard to play. The controls and comboes require too much memorization (and most of the time the comboes make little sense). Also your going to get really tired playing fighting games compared to any other type of game because of this.

I wouldn't mind if fighting games actually took a hint from monster hunter, and actually worried more about the strategy and reflexes rather than such strict execution.

You do know the are different fighting games?

From samurai showdown which has no combos, classic street fighter that relies on poking and zonig, Darkstalkers and its ultra offensive playstyle and many others.

Also those games where you do have to learn and memorize some of the moves (tekken), you dont have to learn every character at the same rate, you should focus on a single character and master it completely then move on once you get tired of it. Not a single charcater in Tekken (or at least most of them) play the same so its gonna take awhile to get tired of it.

As for hard to pull special moves, every fighting game has adopted the quarter/half/full circle motions along with others, not to mention the 6 button layout.
The only fighting game which trolls gaming by keeping obnoxious combos, controls and special move commands is mortal kombat.

The sure way to get tired fast of fighting game is if you have absolutely no one to play with.

I know, hence why I stick to fighting games that require a little less execution these days, but generally these are not very well balanced games unfortunately (sigh)

The main problem is I can't convince any of my friends to play them because of these issues. Majority of fighting games your gonna just have to sit down and enter into training mode until you completely master the execution (which could take forever, and it's only for one character!) This is before you even get a grip on how other characters work, or how to even fight against opponents properly with your character.

So yeah there's generally just a lot of time spent before you actually can get to the game part of the game (or you're prepared for a serious butt whooping). Monster Hunter you'll go through the hour or so of boredom and then you start off small and then go bigger. Since it's a co-op game instead of a pvp game though it's not as big of an issue to be a little underskilled.

I have these "tekken" masters and "street fighter" pros that knows everything about fighting games. They can kick my ass perfect with little effort. The problem arise when I put in smash brothers and show them how that game is played. I always laugh when it's my character that stands in the foreground. All of them still complain that SSB isn't a real fighting game. Pop in ninja storm or budikai or even heat soul and they still complain. Goes to show they only enjoy games they're good at.
