What does it mean to call someone an "elitist" in the Monster Hunter community?

Is an elitist someone who is decent and holds a high standard of gameplay over the heads of beginners and people who don't share that standard?

Is it someone who thinks they're good but isn't?

Is it just the defence of individuals who are too arrogant to accept constructive criticism?

Is it the defence of individuals who don't take MH seriously enough to listen to advice that could potentially make them better players?

Is it rebellion against imagined authority in gaming communities?

Is it a refusal of best practices because there are a million ways to hunt monsters?

The term gets thrown around in and out of the appropriate context almost 24/7. Let's explore the basis of this term in popular culture and on the internet.

All of the above? I think everyone who posts on the boards can be considered at some point.

Now watch my post get torn apart by the people who would then also be considered elitist :3™

All of those answers sounds like someone scorned by an elitist, and therefore wants to show they're butthurt. But seriously, Elitists vary, and honestly not all elitists are douches or bad. Genuine Elitists tend to be people that just don't like playing with incompetent players. They normally like to get through content like it's a job, and prefer to play games competitively and more seriously than your average gamer, and take a much different standpoint on how a game should be played. People often dislike elitism due to the lack of tolerance towards their fellow gamers.

My advice to you is to just ignore them or play with people who enjoy a similar style of gaming to your own.

This MH community is exceedingly good at taking the nomenclature of gaming culture and stripping it of all established and commonly agreed definition, to the point that no one really knows what the hell terms like "vet" or "elitist" or "damage output" mean in regards to MH.

All I can say is good luck.
