Here's how it went for me:

Used SnS up until G. Jaggi. Could barely finish the quest in the 50 min. limit. Switched to GS. Used GS for the rest of offline and online up through around HR60. Got a little bored so I switched to LS. Took me a while to get used to it (no blocking), but then I mained it for quite a bit. Decided to try something else and went for Lance. Used lance for a long time. Tried evade lancing for a while. Tried guard-counter lancing for a while. Tried hammer for a short stint--didn't like it at all. Watched a video on YouTube of someone solo-ing a Deviljho with the Great Inceadeus. I started using SwA a lot. It is, by far, my favorite weapon in Tri. I never get bored of using it. I've mastered it now, and I rarely (if ever) use anything but the Switch Axe. I am very glad that they still have the SwA in MH3U.

...and now you know "the rest of the story."

Oh, and I never really got into bowgunning. I was going to try it, but then I realized I needed to make all new armor sets to use with the bowgun. Pass.

I suck at monster hunter, Tri being the only game I've played. Once I got lance and Agnaktor set, I used only lace for the rest of the game. I never carted after that. It was the only weapon I could stay alive with. Guard +2 means I didn't have to dodge anymore, just stand my ground and counter.

With this game though, I want to try out the bow. I think that is the weapon I'm going to main with. I hated bowgun in tri, hopefully bow is better.

One does not simply use only one weapon.

Sure, if we ever see MH4 stateside and there IS a new weapon(s) to learn.

In P3rd, I had a bit of a rough time learning that Horns weren't terrible anymore, then convinced myself they still were (just not as abominably so as in Unite), then convinced myself permanently that they were worth using. Also in P3rd, I learned that no matter how much the new mechanics made me WANT to like DS, they are, have been, and likely always will be, irredeemably bad.

So that said, I guess I'll be doing the opposite of "learning a new weapon;" I'll be forgetting an original weapon. Literally, I don't think I'll even bother forging any DS even just for the sake of collecting them, and the only DS uses I'll rack up will be any mandated by any applicable Training School missions if the school still gives out rewards like Sword Saint and Barrage Piercing.

Seriously, f*** DS's, there is no middle finger big enough.

Don't get hit and hit it until it dies, in that order.
Kill it, carve it, wear it, repeat it.

I will this time around get good with the lance. It's such a good weapon I just never cared to get good with it. But I will always be a hammer user at heart.
