Don't forget the Hunting Horn. Too many times I have seen hunters standing on the other side of a trap and pinging like crazy. And when the monster misses the trap, the hunters all strafe around the trap and wait around some more. I've seen this go on for up to five minutes.
If you want the monster to come to you, stand a safe distance behind the trap (so you don't get hit when they charge you) and use the Hunting Horn. Most of the time, the monster will turn and charge right at you.

Never ping.
A good hunter doesn't need to ping. So don't freak out when you set a trap and ping 50 times a minute. When you find a monster the icon next to your name changes as well so you don't need to go ping happy then either.
