What causes freezes?

So far I've had two, and they both occurred when someone tried to detonate a remote mine on me while I was host. You'd better control yourself next time I host for you Dane.

Freezes have seemed to only occur during a multiplayer game when you are the host. The only cause I find is the level glitch. At the end of a level glitched match, the hosts Wii u freezes, thus always causing level glitched games to not be finished. And only two freezes?! You're lucky.
