The folly of forced autosave...

#21IsuzuruPosted 6/18/2013 12:04:17 AM
Well, my point is thus:

-Whether you were heavily burdened or not, the quest was literally right there. Seems silly to run to one place and then run back just when you could've done it in one go.
-I just think "folly" is a harsh word to use when the mechanic as a whole is hardly folly. But the big thing is, it's not really the autosave's fault that you missed the quest. The quest just had a small window of opportunity to accept it and you unknowingly passed it up. Seeing as it is your 3rd playthrough, I feel like you should've known that A) It would autosave after leaving the manse and B) A number of quests ARE missable in this game.

I understand being upset, but it seems like you're blaming the game's system for a mistake that was personal, not technical, and you're upset that the game didn't let you go back and correct it.

Oh blames got nothing to do with it. I'm not blaming. Just ranting. Btw skeleton keys were the most important part to me. Also in general the frame rate during some autosaves suck. You like the autosave, I don't. So do you believe that wanting the option of autosave is ridiculously unreasonable?

Every time I go in to a ranting topic that's fair enough to rant about, I can never bring myself to shoot down the TC's opinion; instead commenting on how it sucks and better luck next time. But really, why are you going out of your way to post against me? Sounds like your trying to lecture me.

I blame the system, not once does the game tell you that there is a checkpoint save that differs from the auto-save, it also doesn't tell you that you can manually save at any time you are not in combat. The only way to find this out is from guess work or more likely when it screws you over, is it even in the manual, i never read them lol.

The fact that this checkpoint save happens at main quest points as well further screws you up, think you were safe with that checkpoint at an inn, nope, not at all. Not happy with that romance you got after seeing the end cutscene, tough you're stuck with them.

I'm not sure why people feel the need to defend it, but i'm sure those people that are haven't been screwed over by it as so many have. People are well within their rights to complain about the save system, it's crap.

Actually just the part about guess on work manual save is invalid. Otherwise your judgement would technically mean that since he didn't read the manual, the auto save system isn't crap. Now how much sense does that make?

Hey, man, if you wanted to rant and have no one say anything against you, you shouldn't post it on the internet. I'm as much entitled to me own opinion as you are in creating this topic. If I don't agree with you, why would I say, "That sucks, better luck next time." instead of voicing what I think. I'm not trying to lecture anyone, i'm sorry that you think that.

No, I don't think having the choice of autosave would be unreasonable. Not sure why they didn't add it since pretty much all games i've played with autosave usually have a choice to shut it off.

I was just pointing out that you seem to be blaming autosave for making you miss the quest, when in fact it was your own lack of knowledge that caused you to miss it, no? As in, you didn't know that leaving would cause you to miss out on the quest. Your issue, as it seems to me, is that the system didn't let you correct your mistake.

What i'm posting against isn't nessecarily you, but your statement that having autosave is folly. And while it may be inconvenient at times, it is by no means a folly. It was created for convenience and to assist gamers who've played for a long time and forgot to save. I mean really, what would be more upsetting: Missing a quest and being unable to fix your mistake, or losing several hours of progress because you were so engrossed that saving slipped your mind?

As for the comment, "Why would any defend it? It's crap." Really? Do you really think autosave is a flawed concept? Ignoring being unable to go back to a previous save and fix a mistake, how is autosave really an annoyance? Other than some lag while it's saving, how does autosave mess up your gameplay? And before you think anything, I want you to know that i'm honestly asking.

Never once has autosave been a convenience for me, its always been a folly. Just because it's not for you, doesn't mean it's not for others. So some forgetful person doesn't save for hours on end and dies, means everyone should have to be subjected to this crap system? Reminds me of taxpayer funded birth control pills..."hey this party girl cant control herself, so you mr. taxpayer need to suffer the consequences." Hell lets start putting jap tech toilets in every newly build house and charge the buyer extra because ppl forget to wipe their own ass. Socialism is a mental disorder slowly being integrated into the world and means an elite government make the decisions for you. A lot of that warped philosophy is shown throughout this game in many ways.

As for lack of knowledge (trying to make me seem like an idiot is awesome), I'm sure you remember every spot where a forced checkpoint save happens right? "That sucks better luck next time," is a statement that has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing. I guess you could say "that doesn't suck hope you never get it" since you disagree. "We will destroy you through your children!" < is happening and it means less freedom, choices will be made for you.

"Talking to Aelinore in the garden immediately after meeting the duke is the only chance you have to obtain this quest." God forbid any more poor bastards be trolled.

I explored the beach after leaving cassardis and missed rescuing reynard. That's a big missable too for his quest and shop.

No, i'm not making you sound like an idiot. You'd be an idiot if you told me that you DID know that leaving the manse would cause you to miss the quest and you DID IT ANYWAYS. What I was saying was that due to the fact that you've never taken on this quest before you didn't know that leaving the manse would cause you to miss it. How is that me making you look like an idiot?

Whoa, man, chill. We're talking about game, not birth control pills or japanese tech toilets. I already asked once for some examples. Besides some slight lag during and not being allowed to cheat the system and go back and fix a mistake, you've told me nothing more about how it's inconvenienced you.

You're calling it a Folly. This means it's a huge mistake, few redeemable features. All I see is minor inconveniences.

Plus, I never said having the choice was unreasonable. So all your comments about not having a choice on it is invalid. Because I agree that there should always be a choice for those who don't care for it.
