Why won't the PS4 be able to play music CDs or DVDs?

Why does Sony insist on removing these key features? Not everyone has upgraded to Blue Rays yet.

They still make DVDs?

Do you still have a VCR?

If you own a PS4 then by default you've upgraded to Blu-ray.

When did they confirm that?

And meh, sounds good to me honestly. Sounds like they are trying to make a real solid gaming system. Guess they figure that with Xbox going all crazy for online only multimedia living room center of the world nonsense, they will go for the gamer only market. Simplicity

Not that I think either of those features are you know..complex.

DVDs are still very popular. Anyone who has a 360 knows this. As it only plays DVDs. Thankfully, when new movies are released, its always the "Bluray DVD combo" packs. In the past BD and DVD movies we sold separately. But now that costs have gone down, they just lump them together =)

Umm...of course it will be able to play DVD and CD's. It's so easy to implement that feature, its a given that they will.

Don't be an idiot. Stop trying to get people riled up about the PS4. We like what we hear about the PS4. Developers like the PS4. Sony seems like they are doing the right thing this gen. (aside from dropping BC). Focus is on Microsoft now. Stop trying to distract us.

You missed when Sony said it wouldn't?

I found a link: http://ps4daily.com/2013/04/playstation-4-audio-cds/

It seems they are omitting just audio CD playback. Not a deal breaker, but something I'm not particularly happy about. Why would they do that? It's just silly. Many people prefer playing CD quality audio over compressed files on a computer or compressed-as-hell streaming music. (I know I do). Again, not a deal breaker but definitely something to watch.

And I was hoping they would support DVD-Audio and SACD again. (I wasn't going to hold my breath though). So much for that. Maybe they are trying to support Blu-Ray audio and attempting to get the industry to move on. If that's the case, I might be okay with it, if it can get the industry to embrace uncompressed, multi-channel music more completely.
