So you can't play a physical PS3 game disc on a PS4?

No, unless they literally build a ps3 into it.

Backwards Compatibility
Yes. Available in 2014 Gaikai (own section) will allow PS3 backwards compatability.

Wrong. Backwards compatibility is taking the games you already own, putting them in the new console, and being able to play them. Buying the games again over a streaming service is not backwards compatibility, it's buying games to play on PS4.

Hmmm, you seem to be a little upset about this. Right now this system does fall under the world voted term for backwards compatibility.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backward_compatibility
In telecommunications and computing, a product or technology is backward or downward compatible if it can work with input generated by an older product or technology. If products designed for the new standard can receive, read, view or play older standards or formats, then the product is said to be backward-compatible; examples of such a standard include data formats and communication protocols. Modifications to a system that do not allow backward compatibility are sometimes called "breaking changes."

Specifically referencing the second sentence of the Wikipedia user voted definition, as well as the final line, "breaking changes", you can see that the PS4 with Gaikai, from what we know so far, does in fact fall under backwards compatibility. You can discuss this definition through this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Backward_compatibility
There are many people like you who wish to challenge this, and with enough pressure potentially could. Good luck.

The reason he's upset about it is because it is a misuse of the term, even per the "world voted on" definition you have provided, and an extremely misleading one at that.

If the old product or technology has to be modified or converted to a different format in order to be usable by the new product or technology, then it follows that the new product is not backward compatible with the old product.

Examples:

PS2 was backward compatible with PS1 games. It could accept an unmodified and unconverted PS1 compact game disc into its digital video disc drive and play the game. It could do this with almost every PS1 game ever produced.

Audio cassette tapes are not backward compatible with LPs. In order to playback audio sourced from an LP through a newer audio cassette tape that audio must first be transferred onto the newer technology, altering the input data format from physical grooves to magnetic grooves.

The case with PS3 games on PS4 is much more akin to the latter than the former.

It's a breaking change, but it is still backwards compatibility. Sorry. The editing time is long gone anyways.
