I hope the PS4 doesn't break down as easily as the PS3

My PS3 Slim died a few months ago. It shuts off on its own at random intervals, and then it just won't turn on. My bro bought a brand new Slim last month, and the same **** is happening again. Sigh.

My slim is fine, but my fat PS3 died on me. I hope the PS4 is also better build, but I'm not holding my breath. Definitely not buying day 1 though.

I doubt it. I've had problems with Sony since the PS2 era. Gone through 4 PS2s(on 5th now). On my 3rd PS3. First PS3 didn't even last a month. 2nd lasted 3 years. I know a lot of people hate the 360 due to the number of system failures, but I haven't experienced nearly as much problems with the original XBOX(one console) and the 360(on 2nd console), as I've had with Sony.

I've had my 80GB PHAT PS3 for 6 years now. Can't agree with this statement.

Actually the first console since the old NES/SNES systems to last throughout the entire console generation. Blu-Ray player still works fantastic, everything still runs smoothly. And this system gets used for everything. Netflix / Vudu streaming, blu-ray watching, game playing, etc.

Agree, my first PS3 slim lasted less than a month I might have just been unlucky though.

I bought a fat PS3 in the first year and it is still going without any issues, being used every day. My room gets to 32 degrees C sometimes during the summer.
Good for me.
I guess it's difficult to know if you see several people reporting having had problems, in a thread like this, because people are more likely to post if they have had problems.

I guess I've been unlucky with Sony consoles since 2004.

Still on my first Ps3 FAT, no problems whatsoever.
Gone thought 3 Xbox's, 1 being a slim.

You do have warranty you know. MS replaced my 360 in two weeks. DHL came to pick it up, free shipping and all. Sony is beholden to the same consumer laws.
