Do you think this generation has started a trend of underpowered consoles?

I remember the days when consoles had the top of the line hardware at the time. Will future consoles follow in the path of the PS4 and Xbone by being several times weaker than high end PC's right at launch?

When was this? Consoles have never been top of the line when compared to PCs.

Most likely. With rising development costs, closed platforms are becoming less and less sustainable.

2005(Xbox360)
2001(Xbox)
1998(Dreamcast)
1996(Nintendo 64)
1994(Sega Saturn/Sony Playstation)
1993(3D0/Atari Jaguar)
1991(Neo Geo)
1990(Super Nintendo)
1988(Sega Genesis)
1987(PC Engine)
And pretty much every major generation before that.

I see you didn't look at the graph.

This. I'm not sure why people forget history so fast?

Erm, no that sir is wrong. Lets say the sega genesis and super Nintendo which came out at their launch date, computers where already more powerful. For an exsample look at the games released. games like doom, and mortal kombat (pc port) where 2x's better than their console ports. Also the biggest change was arcade systems which where manufactured with pc parts where better.

The consoles where always underdeveloped. Main reason being it was cheaper going console than it was to buy a actual arcade and the parents wouldn't have to worry about kids ruining there computer.

People had kittens when they anounced the cost of the consoles this gen. I remember when a console cost more than the TV it was played on. Get off my lawn.

You're right I didn't. After looking at it I can say it's bogus. The PS3 and 360 GPUs (not to mention the Wii) were garbage the day they launched when compared to what was available to PCs at the time yet the graph shows the two to be nearly equal.

LOL

That graph is highly flawed, in no way were consoles ever comparable (or even better) to PC's at release, this is highly ridiculous.

And even if this was the case, these new consoles are about 2 years past when they traditionally should be launching.

If anything it's the industry trying to be cost effective.

That's just, like...your opinion, man.
