Why is killing kids in video games such a sensitive subject?

Innocence, taboo, morals/ethics are fine for religious people but it shouldn't be shoved down the throat of atheists and non religious people.

Morals and ethics exist independent of religion. In fact, they become more essential and meaningful when you remove the "punishment/reward" system of religion.

yep and people who think that being evil for fun isn't evil if there's no punishment make me sick.

I agree with the other poster. morals and ethics are for religious people only. if a person steals something they feel guilty because they were taught morals in church or from their parents for religious reasons. people in the military are deprogrammed from morals so they can kill the enemy.

If you even need to ask this question, there's a high probability that your brain is not fully developed.

I know lot of people with many different backgrounds, and by far, the most ethical and morally sound people I know are those who are secular.

Since this topic has resurfaced, I'll pose a question.

What makes it okay to kill an adult NPC compared to a child NPC?

Is there a flip that switches that an 18 year old is okay, but a 17 year old is not?

i want to know the answer too.

So do I. I've yet to see this point properly addressed - how killing a virtual (virtual!) adult is perfectly fine but if they're below 18yrs it's some kind of disgrace to humanity.

Read through the topic my friend. Innocence, taboo, morals/ethics, etc. I know I explained it in a few posts, maybe others did too. Virtual or not, people will still see what those pixels represent and it won't matter that it isn't real. It's the fact that it's depicted at all.

From my point of view I don't see a 16, 17 year old as a kid. When someone asks of I want to kill children in games, I think children, 13 and under, not young adults, 14,15 and up.

OK, so what magically happens on a fake! child's 14th birthday that makes killing them OK?

I agree with some other posters. If you can kill NPCs in games and there are child NPCs, you should be able to kill them. If a developer doesn't want to allow that, don't include child NPCs - simple! I remember in Fallout 3 I killed all the inhabitants of Megaton (like one at a time). Not because whee! killing=fun, but for experience points. But it was just really odd after that to have this town of invincible orphans...

Sony loves kids. Jack Tretton visits a hospital and gives away free PS stuff lol.

"Tretton works with the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, California – which is affiliated with the Stanford University School of Medicine. He works with the hospital’s administration to provide the children with PlayStations and games"

Good man!
