And I know from personal experience that almost everyone I talk to in real life and who I see posting on the internet, including youtubers and game journalists, they by and large prefer the 360 controller.
a single internet poll proves it as a non disputable fact.
It's more than stick placement. The 360 controller had a better grip than the ds3. The ds4 seems to have corrected the issue. --- Currently playing - SMT IV, Suikoden V, waiting on Tales of Xilia to arrive at my door
well im glad they did because im not using a controller that reverses the dpad and left stick.. honestly dont know if ill like the ds4 as is they should have just stuck their stupid touchpad in the middle and otherwise left it the same. --- Beauty is the only truth in this world.
Sounds like you needed to have the d-pad lower and over to the right.
I guess your ideal controller is this then,

Good thing they didn't go for that awful asymmetrical placement.
In this case it would be an improvement. Read the article, they admit that FPS game studios wanted the left analogue stick up top, but Sony decided against it because they wanted to keep a traditional look.
See how the d-pad is on the same level as the face buttons, it's not below it. That's because it's your thumbs default resting position. When the analogue stick became the primary input, it should have replaced the d-pad.
Sony is the only one who does this. Sega put the analogue stick on top, Nintendo does it, Xbox does it, the new steampad does it.
Sony just refuses to change it because of tradition, I'm surprised they admitted that. They gave a good reason for why the right analogue stick should be where it is, but not the left.
The Dualshock has consistently been the best controller around since the PS1. Why change it when it's still the best?
Obviously people aren't very smart. Whether your thumbs are at the same elevation has very little to do with the controller and mostly to do with what games you play. That is why there is no point in moving the face buttons. Aside from shooters, the vast majority of genres primarily use face buttons. Hence your thumbs are at the same elevation for games like jRPGs, wRPGs, puzzle games, action games, strategy games, racing games, sports games and so on.
If you prefer having both thumbs at the same level, then symmetrical sticks would not be for you unless you only play shooters. --- GT: ZiiX360 PSN: BoxFighter85 PC: i7 930@4Ghz | EX58 UD5 | GTX 460 SLI | 8GB DDR3 | 500GB Spinpoint | Vertex 2 180 SSD | Cooler Master HAF X | VG236H
